We did it again! The boys’ high school soccer team made it to the State Finals, for the second year in a row. The final four teams were two Wichita teams (us and Goddard Eisenhower) and two Kansas City area teams (Shawnee Heights and Blue Valley Southwest). Blue Valley Southwest was the team we lost to last year in the final game.
After securing a final four with an intense game against Andover Central Tuesday night, we had a team dinner on Thursday night, a “send off” on Friday afternoon, semi final and final games Friday night and Saturday afternoon in Spring Hill, KS.
At the team dinner, the parents stuffed goodie bags for the boys, and made signs. Fun fact: the boys ate 1200 chicken nuggets that night. That’s more than 40 per player. 🙄
We also wrote on the players’ cars. In case you can’t read it, it says “State Bound,” “Go Mavs,” “#10” and “#28” – those are the boys’ jersey numbers.
The send off at school…players, parents coaches and supporters.
Our first game is 7 p.m. tonight (Friday night). Another game is being played at 5 p.m., so I dropped Scott off there to watch, and I checked us in to the hotel. We were staying at the same hotel as the team, and when I got off the elevator, I see the team door signs….
…and eventually figure out our room is in the midst of the team and NEXT DOOR to Zach’s room….or the Zach² room, because there was two Zach’s in that room.
I asked for a different room…far far away.
