2024 College Disc Golf Nationals πŸ₯β›³οΈ

The weather was 100% better than last year’s College Disc Golf Nationals. 🌧️ ❄️ πŸ₯Ά

Highs in the 60s and no rain. It was a little chilly, but I will take that over 50 degrees in the pouring rain any day.

As disc golf has become more popular, the interest in the sport garnered more schools and teams this year. This year’s event included 800 disc golfers from 150 schools in the United States, Canada and the U.K.

The team arrived in Rockhill, SC on Sunday to have time to practice on the courses. For the parents, it was an uneventful travel day on Tuesday. We arrived in Rockhill, SC in time for the opening ceremonies. All the teams were announced and walked into the Winthrop University Coliseum.

We stayed in a cute little 1 bedroom Airbnb next door to a YMCA branch, half a mile from Starbucks and about 10 minutes from the Winthrop University course. #winning

The team stayed in a hotel about 15 minutes away.

For DII, day one was team round at Westminster Park course.

This is a screenshot from the video of his first putt of the tournament. #MadeIt

Sc served as caddy all three days.

Day 2 was singles at Camp Cannaan,

This was an interesting hole during the singles round. Some complained that it really didn’t measure the ability of the players, and was just a novelty hole. #NailedIt

Day 3 was the Winthrop Lakefront course.

The final day, the team was back at the Westminster Park course.

Lots of trees to navigate.

The DII team held strong all three days. The showed up in a big way the last day. They started out tied for 20th place and finished 11th out of 80 teams.

We ate out several times with the parents of the DII team, and the guys even played a couple of rounds. This is the iconic hole #3 at Winthrop University Lakefront course.

Definitely more spectators watching this year. This is the crowd that followed our group on the last day of the tournament.

Traveling home, the first leg of our flight was on time. We arrived in Denver, where our plane was delayed for four hours. No one was offering an explanation, but we all wondered if this situation has something to do with it (we don’t think so): An engine cover on a Southwest Airlines plane rips off, forcing the flight to return to Denver

Eventually, a plane was hauled over from the international terminal (at least that is what we were told) and all was well on the flight home.
