The College Disc Golf Nationals were April 5-8 near Marion, NC at the North Cove: Leisure Club and Disc Golf, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve been to lots of disc golf tournaments, but not one that drew 700 players from 80 colleges and universities from across the nation. #Legit This is the 18th year for this tournament.

There were three courses on the property: River Run, Boulders, and the Gorge. The DII team played twice on the the Gorge – a gold-level course and the longest and most difficult of the two. DII singles were on River Run, (the easiest) and the Championship was played on Boulders. (intermediate).

On the Boulders course.

The weather was a bit temperamental. π
The first day it was 80 and muggy. βοΈ π« Many players got sunburned… and weirdly, several got burned on the backs of their knees.

The second day it was in the 70s, but a thunderstorm rolled through and lightning delayed the tournament for about an hour. βοΈ βοΈ

This was the weather on the third day. In other words…miserable. βοΈ π§οΈ π¨ π₯Ά

We bought a large umbrella at the course, because our two small ones were not big enough. Scott was Z’s caddy, and we needed to keep the discs dry. I guess bad things happen when your disc is wet.
It was hard to stay dry.
This was the first hole on River Run. That water is not supposed to be there.
Umbrellas everywhere.
This was the weather on the last day. Just like the day before except 10 degrees colder. So, extra miserable. βοΈ π§οΈ π¨ π₯Ά

Everything was wet and soggy.

You can kind of see the raindrops splashing in near the front of the tee.

I survived! Really glad I packed a stocking cap, long rain coat and gloves.
Here’s the final results of the tournament:
- DI men took 2nd place (out of 61 teams)
- DII men tied for 21st (out of 51 teams)
- DI women took 16th (out of 28 teams).
