Kid #2 arrived home on Dec. 12. He said his finals were easy.
He was scheduled to have his wisdom teeth out on Monday, Dec. 16. He drank about 6 oz. of water before he arrived at the appointment…which we now know, you are not supposed to do. When a doctor tells you not to eat or drink anything before a procedure… that includes water. π€£
We had to reschedule the appointment for Friday, Dec. 19, and were charged a $100 late cancellation fee. The surgery went fine, but it took several days for the swelling to go down.
Kid #1 arrived home on Dec. 22. That night, we had planned to go to the Dockum Speakeasy for their “Sippin’ Santa” holiday experience, but ended up rescheduling for Dec. 30 so everyone could enjoy the festivities without a swollen mouth and. being hopped up on pain medication.
We headed to Kansas City on Dec. 23, and arrived at Grammy’s in time for a lasagna dinner and a game of Smart Ass. On Christmas Eve, we experienced Holiday Reflections at Union Station, which included a brief history of the holidays in downtown Kansas City, millions and millions of lights, and the miniature trains.

There were ample places for selfies to evoke FOMO on social for anyone who did not attend.

For lunch, we walked to Crown Center and ate at Fritz’s, along with every family with kids under the age of 10. π€£
Then home to play Dominos, eat egg casserole, enjoy festive beverages, and watch A Christmas Story. On Christmas Day, we all slept in, then snacked throughout the morning. The Chiefs played at noon, so we drank mimosas and enjoyed the game before heading home.
When we arrived home, we found that Santa had been at our house! π
Gifts this year included a renewal of the Adobe Suite subscription, another year of Netflix, cash, and “The Night Before Christmas at Dunder Mifflin” book. Kid #2 read the book aloud, but then complained that his mouth hurt. π
Sc received Moscow Mule glasses and ice trays that make big round ice. I received a Kindle, so I don’t have to weigh myself down with books while traveling.
In our stockings, we all received Bombas socks, chocolate, a lottery ticket and a shot of fireball. The boys also received handwarmers and more food. Sc’s stocking included travel size containers of vaseline and chapstick. I had makeup remover, lotion and a little thing to wrangle all my cords on my beside table.
We celebrated with Oma & Papa a few days later, before Kid #1 left to attend a wedding in Dallas with his girlfriend. They returned back home just in time for “Sippin Santa” at the Dockum (#ForcedFamilyFun).
The Dockum was decorated and there was a special menu. I wished they would have had their “regular” drinks available too, but it was fine. It’s always fun at the Dockum! And yes, that flamingo ws the glass a drink came in…
On New Year’s Eve, Kid #2 felt well enough to go out with friends, and Kid #1 and his girlfriend went out too. I don’t think I made it midnight. I did drink champagne though – priorities!
