Thanksgiving 2023

Love looking out the door and seeing this again! 😍 Both boys are home for Thanksgiving.

Me and the boys went to the much anticipated Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I had read the book earlier this year. There was also disc golf playing (no surprise).

The three Hilgers, and Pam and Ted drove down to celebrate Thanksgiving with us and Oma and Papa. We grilled surf and turf – salmon, chicken, steak – something we’ve done regularly since we aren’t huge fans of turkey. Side dishes included mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, green beans, crusty bread with dipping oil, veggie tray, garlic stuffed olives, and fruit salad. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, ice cream and ultimate chocolate cake was on the dessert menu.

The only picture I got of food was the appetizers!

While we were preparing food, there was also an interesting conversation about this “Whole Cloves” spice container found at my parent’s house. It appears this particular container might be considered “vintage” as Food Club no longer makes this particular design, but you can buy it on eBay.

After much back and forth about the quality and taste of old spices, the cloves container ended up in the trash can. For safety reasons.

We each wrote down what we’re thankful for, a tradition we’ve done for many years.

We even read some “thankful” notes from past Thanksgivings. The Gen Z crew had a hard time reading some of the handwriting, which sparked a lively discussion about cursive handwriting taught in schools.

On Saturday, it snowed for about 8 hours. A heavy snow too. This was 10 a.m.

And 2 p.m.

The airport ended up shutting down because the maintenance crews couldn’t keep the runways clear and safe for air travel. The airport shutdown caused a major stir on social as individuals took to Facebook to complain.

I’m not sure why people still get so disturbed when their travel plans are disrupted by weather, and during the busiest holiday travel days. When I travel, I assume there is going to be a delay or problem, especially if you are flying. There is nothing you can do about it, so you might as well expect it. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

It ended up being a pretty big storm – breaking a few weather records.

My non-scientific snowfall measurement says 7.5 inches at our house.

The next day was sparkling and sunny.
