December was full of the “usual” holiday activities, .enjoying holiday pop-ups and events around town. We had already been to the Bradly Fair tree lighting and River City Brewery’s holiday pop up, now it was time for more fun!
Sparky’s
Sparky’s, known as the oldest holiday pop up in the area, returned to Larcher’s Market for another year. I love seeing all the vintage decorations and nods to the holiday movies such as “A Christmas Story.” See Ralphie in the pink bunny suit and the infamous leg lamp? I read somewhere that the name “Sparky’s” came from the movie “Christmas Vacation” – it’s the nickname Chevy Chase’s wife gave him in the movie.
My PRSA chapter group hosted a holiday networking event there and they played classic holiday movies in the space. So fun!
Elf interactive movie
This is the second year we’ve attended the interactive showing of Elf. This time it was shown at Doc’s Hangar, which was cool. There was a bar and food truck available, plus all the things needed to participate in the movie. 😆
Christmas
I’m not sure how we ended up outside at midnight on Christmas Eve with the neighbors, but here we are! It was unusually warm, around 60 degrees during the day. It must have been pretty nice at night too, because it looks like we are outside in sweatshirts and light coats.
Christmas morning
We met Kid #1’s friend at Oak Park to play disc golf in the afternoon. He was able to sneak away from his family to play a round.
I
did make everyone take a few snaps at our usual Oak Park photo spot. We’ve been taking pictures at Oak Park for almost 20 years.
A few days later, we were able to spend a few hours with extended family. I think there was maybe six hours where almost everyone was together. First, family photos… looks like the warm weather continued!

Then on to Botanica Illuminations for holiday lights, another tradition we’ve done for many years.
The next day was brunch at our house… with a make-your-own mimosa bar! Mimosas are one of my favorite cocktails, but I rarely make them at home or order them when we’re out. We did almost have a champagne emergency as I realized I did not have enough for everyone. Dad to the rescue! He made a trip to the liquor store at 11 am to get a few more bottles. Whew! 🥂
Finally, another trip back to River City Brewery’s Miracle on Mosley Steet on New Year’s Eve. Dinner before Kid #2 left to hang out with friends. I’m not sure if I made it to midnight… I’m guess not.
